I HAVENEVER USED ANY OTHER AND I TRUST I NEVER SHALL.Thomas Painemay i bring up a nice example? ok, couple of months ago i attempted toinstall linux for the first time. did i just go into a linux newsgroup andask "hey everyone how do i install linux!"? nope. i read for 3 hours. iread every FAQ and documentation i could find. i knew alot about what wasgoing to happen well before i even started the installation procedure.THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO LEARN. yes, i ran into a snag or two. but iresearched the problem to the point where i could ask an intelligentquestion and almost predict an answer.through this ordeal i have leaned so much more about the Linux operatingsystem than i wouldve if i just asked stupid questions like "how come mycdrom dont work duh!". do you see what im getting at? does anyone seewhat im getting at?
MP3S DOWNLOADABLE : so, tankgirl, maybe i "reaching out".tough love.-mikeheh, funny you mention that.i havnt gotten it to actually do anything yet. i cant get the x-server towork with this system. however i configure it, it always displays a "mirrorimage" of itself on the same screen. (what i mean is the xwindows screenwould be on the left, then again on the right. the screen would be splitinto two identical sections)its also been years since ive actually had to do productive stuff in UNIXsyntax, so sharpening my rusty UNIX skills isnt helping the situation.i've eliminated the possibility of the problem being caused by arefresh-rate overflow by testing it on different monitors, and they all dothe same thing. so whatever this weird mirror-image error is, its gotsomething to do between the interface of the linux software and my videocard (trident 9240gui, 2meg). no one ive spoken to seems to know of asolution... apparently this is just supposed to work right the first time.so until i figure out how and why my xserver is not working, i just have todeal with microsoft windows.
MP3S DOWNLOADABLE : oh yea, cant get pppscript to work either, and i have to recompile thekernel to make it accept my ethernet card (3com etherlink). i havnt reallyput much effort into those problems yet though. im taking it one step at atime.considering about a month ago i had never even seen a linux OS up andrunning, i think im doin pretty good :)-mikeit totally applied, because my point was that not everyone does things the sameway. and while it may be important to you not to make mistakes or -god forbid-let anyone see your weaknesses, some people would rather take a risk andconnect with other people and do their research that way.i do customer service with an insurance company and most everyone who callsthere understands it so little that they have no clue how to even ask thequestion that they need the answer to. i would never tell them "hey, idiot, whydon't you spend 3 hours online and learn something about insurance before youcall me with your dumbass questions". instead, i give them some backgroundinformation and then answer their questions. the questions you say are sostupid sound ok to me...probably because i know nothing about the informationthey want. since they know nothing either, it makes sense that their questionsmay be off the mark.lots of people ask questions here and lots of people give them an address orinformation on where to start. i don't think it would kill you to offer thesame kindness (especially because you could be a great resource.) use your powers for good!chris(intercourse, intercourse, intercourse, intercourse) huh-huhTankGrrl
